Cheri VandenHeuvel is an actor by trade and poet by calling. She graduated from The University of Detroit with B.F.A. in performance and received a M.F.A. from The University of Missouri-Kansas City and is enrolled in the UCLA Creative Writing Certificate program. She’s currently writing a play that is poetic exploration of the Middle Passage of the transatlantic slave trade.
She is an alumnus of The Second City-Detroit Mainstage where she taught, wrote, and performed sketch comedy. Some classical credits include the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, King Lear, Around the World in 80 Days, To Kill A Mockingbird,
Macbeth, Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Trojan Women. Idaho Shakespeare Festival as Titania in A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Adriana in The Comedy of Errors.
In Los Angeles she has worked on mostly new plays. Low Hanging Fruit directed by Lee Sankowich which moved to a San Francisco run directed by Louis Parnell. Recent works at Playwrights Arena; A Hit Dog Will Holler and I Go Somewhere Else by Inda Craig Galvan, for which she won Best Actress in the L.A. Stage Raw Awards.
Cheri is a member of the Glorious Ladies of Puppetry who recently performed in San Francisco’s Sketchfest with the Glorious Ladies of the Groundlings and is rehearsing with the Jim Henson Puppet Up company.
